“Keep hope alive and find a Cure!!”
I first met Donna when our boys played recreational soccer. We then reconnected at various events and even Zumba dance. Zumba is where Donna first noticed her right side/arm did not feel right doing some of the dance moves. Then many doctor visits and more tests ensued. When Donna was first diagnosed with Parkinson's, it was initially a relief to know what was really going on. So now, what does she do about it? Donna wanted to do something to help. To do more... She expressed this to family and friends. You know Donna…, her excitement is contagious, so I, of course, was all in. Whatever that might be. Once I learned more about Team Fox and Michael J Fox’s mission, we knew we could also join his team and make a difference. I wanted to be part of this great mission and give back. I wanted to fight alongside Donna. I initially joined as a Committee member in 2016 and went on to become a Board member for three years (2018-21) and today continue as a Committee member.
Our team put together many fundraising events i.e. “The Gala” for many years. Every year was a new theme and the sky was the limit. If you could dream it, why not make it a reality!! That is exactly how Donna lives her life. Team Fox Detroit was also passionate about bringing awareness to others. So shortly into our mission, we put together the Research Salon and invited doctors who specialize in Parkinson’s to share their information and progress. Many people in the community were excited to finally be able to attend something locally. Over and over again, I am amazed at our team for the creativity, marketing, and of course, teamwork.
I strongly believe in the fight to find a cure for Parkinsons. Team Fox Detroit has connected so many people and you also can be part of this family.
